Cafe Mocha

If you have been around awhile you have come to know (and hopefully love) our Monday K-cup coffee recipes.  I love fun, easy to make coffee drinks. They are a simple indulgence that can usually be made with ingredients already in your kitchen.  There will be no running to the local coffee shop around here, no sir,  we have Keurig’s in our kitchen that make these recipes easy peasy.

I have said it before,  I have a pet peave with the intimidation tactics used by coffee shops.  Now do not get me wrong, I LOVE the rare treat of sitting down and enjoying a coffee served to me in a quaint setting with a beautiful dessert to boot.  But,  I do not love the complicated “coffee shop lingo” and drink names when I know darn well,  I can make those same exact drinks at home. Not only can I make them easily at home but,  I can make them with my Keurig brewer.

The past few weeks I have been sharing some really fun recipes that I hope you have enjoyed trying (I know I have,  especially the coffee sorbet…yummy!).  I am thinking today that it is time to go back to the basics.  If you know how to make a few staple coffee drinks you can use them in hundreds of recipes.  Today we will learn how to make a coffee house staple… Cafe Mocha.

I have three ways you can make a mocha at home,  easiest, very easy and easy.

1. Cafe Escapes Cafe Mocha K Cups

This is a wonderful blend of coffee and creamy chocolate all in one K cup!  Just pop it in your Keurig brewer,  select your brew size,  top with whipped cream and whala you have a coffee house quality cafe mocha in 30 seconds!

2. Combine your Favorite k Cup Coffee with Cafe Escapes Milk Chocolate Hot Cocoa.

Choose a medium or dark roast k cup or whatever you have on hand brewed strong.  I prefer to use an extra bold variety, the Green Mountain Dark Magic Extra Bold is perfect. Brew on the lowest water setting your Keurig allows.  Next,   in the same big mug brew a hot cocoa k cup,  top with whipped cream (of course) and you are done!  This option provides you with a bit more of a coffee taste.

3. Coffee House Recipe

I am telling you this is exactly how the coffee shops make your mocha. You will be shocked at how simple and cheap it is!  You will need a gallon size container.  A plastic milk jug works great.

  • First,  gather your ingredients:
  • 1 quart chocolate milk
  • 2 quarts half and half
  • 1 can Hershey syrup (the small can 10-12oz I believe)
  • 4 cups of extra bold k cup coffee preferably dark roast or whatever you have on hand brewed very strongly.
  • Now get prepared…  this is going to be complicated…  are you ready?
  • Pour it all in to the milk jug and shake it up. Done.

Can you Believe it?

You were paying $4.00 a cup for that? You now have a whole gallon of coffee house recipe cafe mocha!  You can heat it up one cup at a time, on the stovetop,  in a crock pot (perfect for a fall or winter party) or serve it over ice. Top with whipped cream, cinnamon and/ or chocolate shavings. Want to save calories (a Skinny Cafe Mocha would be the appropriate lingo)?  Use whole or skim milk in place of the half and half, skim chocolate milk and fat free or sugar free whipped cream!
